HairColumn started as a simple blog and portfolio in 2013. Coining the phrase, “for the love of hair and life itself.”

It was created as a place to chat all things hair and sprinkle a little life in between. Over the years HairColumn evolved into a brand and became a brick and mortar salon in 2021. The name reflects our dedication to hair as our focus, much like a news column is dedicated to a single subject. So, HairColumn became a place entirely dedicated to hair.

Nestled in downtown Eugene, Oregon, you can find a space that specializes in hair extensions, color, cutting and wedding styling. An all-inclusive and sustainable salon that dedicates its energy to the art of hair without further contributing to the negative impact on our planet, while also making sure everyone feels welcomed when they walk into our doors. HairColumn is an upscale, clean and open space where clients can feel at ease knowing they are getting the best experience, and a place where stylists can come to work in a positive, fun and education driven environment.

Our Sustainability Practices

We are always looking for ways to improve our sustainability practices, here’s what you can expect from us:

  • We are proud to announce we are a Davines Concept Salon! Davines; a B-Corp based out of Parma, Italy that strives to be the best for the world through beauty, ethics and sustainability. Founded in 1983 by the Bollati Family, Davines started as a family owned research lab producing cosmetic products for companies around the world. Now, still a family owned business, Davines became their own independent brand in 1992 and has expanded their products and offices across the world. Becoming more sustainable with every passing year they utilize food grade plastics, partnered with Slow Food and saved farms and the food they grow from extinction and placed them into their products; giving your hair and skin the nutrients it needs to really thrive. With the majority of their products having an average biodegradability from the earth within 29 days, Davines cares about their impact on the world and on you as a consumer.

  • We became a certified sustainability salon and partnered with Green Circles Salons. We are able to recycle 95% of our waste created within the salon. Did you know that the beauty industry sends 877 pounds of waste to landfill every minute? Through this partnership we can recycle hair, excess hair color, used metals, single use items, papers + plastics and PPE waste. We ship to a Green Circle Facility where they break down each item and are able to filter back into the environment for good. Here’s just a few things you can expect from our waste created in the salon:

    • composted with other organic waste

    • turned into bio-composite plastic to make products such as recycle bins

    • turns into clean energy

    • metal is melted down and reused for car or bicycle parts

    • left over ash from things that cannot be recycled are used as filler in asphalt, brick, etc.

    • made into products for humanitarian efforts

  • Did you know that the average salon can use up to 150 gallons of water a day? ECOHEADS reduces water use up to 65% per day, that’s the equivalent of two wine barrels a day!

    The filtration system removes from the water:

    • chlorine

    • sediment

    • dirt

    • rust

    Through the use of the filtration system and minerals stones, introduces negative ions making the water:

    • softer

    • adds moisture into the hair

    • smoother + softer end result

    When you lay back in our shampoo basins you can rest assured your hair is in good hands.

  • Yes! Even our toilet paper and tissue paper is sustainable!

    Every day, 1 million trees are cut down to make traditional toilet paper. Who Gives a Crap uses recycled fibres or bamboo. It started when they learned billions of people don't have access to clean water or a toilet. The company mission – ensuring everyone has access to clean water and a toilet within our lifetime. That's when they created their unique business model - 50% of profits are donated to help the billions of people in need. Crowdfunding for their first production run, their CEO Simon sat on a toilet for 50 hours until they successfully reached their $50,000 goal. Since then, they have made a whole lot of toilet paper, added new products to their line up and donated millions in their passion of making the world a better place. They are B Corp™ certified- internationally recognised for reaching the highest standards of environmental and social impact and FSC® certified- dedication to ensuring the proper management of our planet's forests.
